BISNISREAL.COM, JAKARTAThursday, January 9, 2025 – Farmers and transmigrants in Indonesia are set to achieve incomes surpassing ministerial salaries, thanks to a strategic collaboration between the Ministry of Transmigration and the Ministry of Agriculture.

This commitment was announced by Minister of Transmigration M. Iftitah Sulaiman Suryanagara and Minister of Agriculture Amran Sulaiman following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two ministries on Thursday (9/1/25) at the Ministry of Agriculture office in Ragunan, Jakarta.

“We no longer want farmers and transmigrants to be perceived as second-class citizens. They are the backbone of national development. Through collaboration—where the Ministry of Transmigration provides land and workforce, while the Ministry of Agriculture supplies paddy fields, agricultural machinery, and training—farmers and transmigrants can attain prosperity, with incomes exceeding ministerial salaries,” Minister Iftitah stated in front of the media.

“This is no longer just a concept; it has already been proven in the field. With technology and modern agricultural machinery, young farmers from Aceh to Papua are now earning between IDR 15-20 million net per month. Our goal is to achieve true community welfare,” Minister Amran added.

The signing of the MoU marks a significant step in fostering synergy between the two ministries to achieve national food self-sufficiency by next year.

“We are fully committed to supporting the Ministry of Agriculture as the leading sector in this food self-sufficiency initiative. If the Ministry of Agriculture is the infantry, we are ready to serve as the cavalry,” Minister Iftitah remarked, using a military analogy.

Food self-sufficiency is a key priority of President Prabowo’s administration. To achieve this, the Ministry of Agriculture plans to optimize 500,000 hectares of agricultural land and develop an additional 500,000 hectares of new rice fields across priority areas.

Using the Brigade Pangan (Food Brigade) approach, every 200 hectares of rice fields will be managed by 15 trained farmers equipped with modern agricultural machinery.

The MoU signing ceremony was witnessed by Deputy Minister of Transmigration Viva Yoga Mauladi, Secretary General of the Ministry of Agriculture Ali Jamil, and other high-ranking officials from both ministries.
