BISNISREAL.COM, MALANG — Thursday June 12, 2025 – The Yogyakarta Region Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI DIY) has showcased its impressive self-reliance by successfully hosting the 9th “Guyub Rukun Sesarengan” table top event at the Akasia Ballroom Savana Hotel in Malang. Held on Tuesday (June 10, 2025), the event not only promoted hotels and restaurants from the Special Region of Yogyakarta but also served as a testament to PHRI DIY’s independence.
Deddy Pranowo Eryono, Chairman of PHRI DIY, proudly announced that the event was entirely funded by member contributions, without any government assistance. “PHRI DIY is now self-sufficient,” he quipped, highlighting the strong spirit of collaboration and self-initiated efforts within the industry.
The event connected 60 sellers from PHRI member hotels and restaurants across DIY with 80 buyers from Malang and surrounding areas, including hotels, restaurants, travel agencies, and tourist destinations. Deddy emphasized the vital role of this business-to-business forum in expanding networks and fostering inter-regional collaborations, aligning with a vision for sustainable and locally-rooted tourism growth.
Local government officials also offered strong support. Drs. Benny Sampirwanto, M.Si, Assistant 1 of the East Java Regional Secretariat, representing the Governor of East Java, highly commended PHRI DIY’s independence in organizing the event. “This is a very good self-funded activity,” Benny stated, acknowledging the positive impact on local revenue and the promotion of Malang City.
Despite the success of this self-funded event, PHRI DIY continues to hope for further support from the central government, particularly in allocating funds to local governments for spending within the hotel and restaurant sectors. This is crucial given that government MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) contributions remained below 10% from January to May 2025, far from pre-pandemic levels. This aspiration underscores that, even with strong independence, synergy between industry players and the government remains vital for accelerating tourism recovery and growth.
