BISNISREAL.COM, JAKARTA Wednesday October 29,2025 Hotel 1O1 URBAN Jakarta Thamrin once again confirms its position as a destination that offers not only accommodation but also profound cultural experiences. As part of the Art & Music Festival 2025 series initiated by PHM HOTELS, the hotel successfully hosted the “Shibori Class by Studio Kriya” at the D’Artisan Bistro area on Saturday, October 11th. This annual festival carried the highly relevant grand theme: “Sastra & Wastra – Weaving Stories, Preserving Heritage.”

The Sastra & Wastra (Literature & Textile) theme is more than just a slogan. It represents a tangible effort to revive the value of art and the culture of kriya (craft), especially wastra (traditional textiles), amidst the dynamic hustle and bustle of urban society. Through this Shibori class, 1O1 URBAN Jakarta Thamrin provided an interactive platform for the public to not only appreciate, but also to directly engage in the creative process of ancestral heritage.

The event, which commenced promptly at 10:00 AM WIB, garnered a highly enthusiastic response. Dozens of participants from diverse backgrounds—ranging from hotel guests looking for a unique weekend activity, creative communities eager for new techniques, to genuine textile art enthusiasts—filled the D’Artisan Bistro, which was temporarily transformed into a comfortable studio space. They all gathered with a single goal: to learn about and directly try the Shibori technique, the art of fabric dyeing using the traditional tie-dye method originating from Japan, which also has strong roots in Indonesian craft.

With direct guidance from Studio Kriya, an art community focused on the preservation of natural dyeing techniques and traditional Indonesian textile craft, participants were guided through every stage of creating unique patterns. The process began with folding, tying, and finally dipping the fabric into environmentally friendly natural dyes. Every tie and fold determined the final pattern, teaching participants about patience and meticulousness.

The reactions from the participants were overwhelmingly positive. “At first I thought it would be difficult and technical, but it turned out to be so much fun and the results are satisfying! The Shibori technique makes me appreciate the process behind a single piece of fabric we wear every day more deeply,” expressed Dina, one of the participants, with enthusiasm. Another participant, Rio, added, “Activities like this are truly engaging. Besides learning authentic textile art, we could also relax and meet new friends. The comfortable and collaborative hotel atmosphere made the learning experience much more exciting.”

This collaboration between Hotel 1O1 URBAN Jakarta Thamrin and Studio Kriya is a concrete form of support for the development of creativity rooted in local culture. The hotel is not just functioning as a place to stay, but transforming into a cultural hub that provides experiences that are not only enjoyable but also rich in cultural meaning.

This program aligns with the hotel brand philosophy: Stay, Eat, Experience. Every guest and visitor is encouraged to do more than just stay or dine; they are prompted to feel the value of art, engage in social interaction, and gain different, authentic experiences. Through the Shibori Class, 1O1 URBAN Jakarta Thamrin has successfully woven a story between the past and the present, preserving cultural heritage in the midst of Jakarta’s modernity.
