Unveiling the Magic of Vetiver

Vetiver, also known as Chrysopogon zizanioides, is a perennial grass native to India. Its roots have been prized for their natural fragrance since ancient times, traditionally used to scent clothing and important items like batik and kris. This distinctive aroma is derived from the essential oil contained within its roots.

While vetiver oil is widely used in the perfume industry, the plant remains a relatively minor commodity in global trade.

Zocha: Showcasing Garut’s Beauty

Zocha’s products primarily harness the unique qualities of locally-sourced vetiver. Garut is the only region in Indonesia that produces vetiver with such a rich and fragrant aroma.

However, Zocha goes beyond simply extracting the essential oil. With creativity and advanced techniques, they craft unique handmade items, mostly for interior spaces such as homes, offices, and hotels. Their product range includes curtains, tablecloths, and various fashion accessories like bags and prayer mats, all infused with the natural aroma of vetiver.

The Art of Vetiver Weaving

To create high-quality vetiver weaves, several factors must be considered, including root length (50-70 cm), adequate air content for optimal fragrance, and the use of fresh roots.

After careful selection, the roots are woven into sheets of various colors, patterns, and sizes. These sheets then undergo further processing to create a wide array of functional handcrafted products for both interior and exterior use, as well as everyday fashion.
